The CASPEX family offers high resolution and high performance space grade camera heads, specifically designed for demanding space applications. Leveraging 3D PLUS’s advanced packaging technology, each camera head integrates a high resolution image sensor with a user-reconfigurable FPGA-based electronic architecture. This setup allows for configurable embedded image processing and interfacing, ensuring versatility in various space missions.
3D PLUS 4Mpx Monochrome Space Camera Head and 4Mpx RGB Space Camera Head are engineered to deliver exceptional performance in space environments. These space-qualified cameras embed all necessary components to operate their 4Mpx CMOS image sensors and FPGA within a compact volume of 35x35x23mm³. This includes DC-DC converters, latch-up protection, and processing and storage memories, ensuring reliable operation in space.
The camera modules feature a configurable electrical interface through a 55-pin PGA matrix, which includes 12 LVDS pairs, 13 general-purpose I/Os, a JTAG interface for FPGA configuration, and a power supply interface ranging from 5V to 9V. The design provides dedicated optical, mechanical, and thermal interfaces, facilitating seamless integration into space optical instruments.
The CASPEX 4M Space Camera Head is renowned for its radiation performances, making it ideal for scientific imaging, platform and payload monitoring, star tracking, and navigation applications. Its versatility and reliability have led to its selection for multiple missions, including Mars 2020 Perseverance rover’s SUPERCAM instrument, NASA’s Mars Sample Return program ( MSR-ERO, MSR-STA) and DART mission (LICIACube’s LEIA Camera), and OneWeb’s Auriga Startracker. With flight heritage since 2019, this camera head has proven its worth in the harshest space environments.
